Beef It's What's on the Table

As most of you know we have cattle.  Well I can't tell you how many times we've been asked if we sell beef.  We do in fact sell beef.

As the prices continue to rise in the stores it almost seems like everyone needs to buy a side of beef to feed their families.

Did You Know

1. They eat approximately 12% roughage and 50% grain mixtures per day.  A 1000 lb steer would eat approximately 20-25 lbs of corn per day. At the begging of the feeding program feed all the roughage the calf wants until it's eating approximately 3-5 lbs.

2. The average weight in which a butcher steer when taken to the butcher is approximately 1100 lbs.

3. My husband honestly believes the more gentle the cattle the better they eat. That makes sense to me because if I'm nervous in a situation the last thing I want to do is eat.

4. Increase grain to desired amount gradually.  If you feed to much to quickly that can upset their digestive system.

5.  With the prices of hay increasing that means more money out of our pockets.  We have to consider ways to cut back on hay waste.  Right now we are feeding the big bales so the only place we can keep it outside the barn uncovered, which can cause us to waste approximately 37% of the bale.
